At SparkPeople, we love helping people accomplish big goals—but we believe it's equally important to celebrate the small successes along the way. Each week in the Spark Spotlight, we'll check in with a featured member about his or her proudest moments, biggest challenges and advice for others on living, thinking and feeling healthier. We hope these quick snapshots will help motivate you to keep moving steadily toward your own goals, week by week.

Trista's Small Success of the Week

Losing a total of 45 pounds!

What's your overall goal?

My original goal was to get healthier. I set a goal to lose 50 pounds in a year. I started on May 8, 2017 with the goal of losing slowly, five pounds at a time, and to celebrate each pound lost.

How is SparkPeople helping you get there?

SparkPeople has helped me along my journey as I sign in every day to log my foods and make smarter meal choices. It also helps me make sure I am drinking enough water. I enjoy reading everyone's inspirational posts. Some days when I didn't feel like exercising or wasn't motivated to eat right, I would log on and read everyone's posts and then I would get up and start moving. I also love signing in every day and watching my Spark points add up.

What's your biggest challenge right now?

My biggest challenge is staying away from fast food, especially french fries. It has been the hardest thing to not eat them, or to eat very little of them when treating myself.

What advice do you have for someone who just joined SparkPeople?

My advice for somebody who is new to SparkPeople would be start every day new. It doesn't matter what you did yesterday, even if you overate or didn't exercise. Start each morning as if it were day one.
