At SparkPeople, we love helping people accomplish big goals—but we believe it's equally important to celebrate the small successes along the way. Each week in the Spark Spotlight, we'll check in with a featured member about his or her proudest moments, biggest challenges and advice for others on living, thinking and feeling healthier. We hope these quick snapshots will help motivate you to keep moving steadily toward your own goals, week by week.

Lori's Small Success of the Week

What's your overall goal?

My overall goal is to be as healthy and fit as I can be, and enjoy the process as I go. I just turned 50 and good health is a priority going forward. I have a special needs adult child and I need my health to care for her in the future.

How is SparkPeople helping you get there?

I utilize SparkPeople's nutrition and fitness trackers as a huge part of my program. I log everything I eat and all the fitness I do. It's a great motivator and helps me stay on course. The community here is also very positive and supportive. I've been on SparkPeople going on nine years now and I owe much of my success to the tools and the community here.

What's your biggest challenge right now?

My biggest challenge right now is staying patient with the process. I have strength-training goals I am trying to meet and it's taking longer than I had hoped. Quitting is not an option, though, so I will keep trying and pressing on.

What advice do you have for someone who just joined SparkPeople?

Get involved in the community here, whether with the message boards, community feed or groups. And utilize the tools offered here, such as the nutrition and fitness trackers and the articles. Make goals. Set up a routine for yourself. Take pictures and measurements as ways to gauge your progress. Most importantly, never give up! If you stumble, get back up and keep moving. Invest in yourself.
