Spark Spotlight: Candy (CANDYL41)

By , SparkPeople Blogger
At SparkPeople, we love helping people accomplish big goals—but we believe it's equally important to celebrate the small successes along the way. Each week in the Spark Spotlight, we'll check in with a featured member about his or her proudest moments, biggest challenges and advice for others on living, thinking and feeling healthier. We hope these quick snapshots will help motivate you to keep moving steadily toward your own goals, week by week.

Candy's Small Success of the Week

"Walking with my daughter for heart health!"

What's your overall goal?

My overall goal is so simple: to be the healthiest me I can be, and to help my daughter make the same choice as well. I'm a licensed massage therapist, and I'm working on becoming a health coach. In order to be a health coach, I need to be a great example of putting my health first.

How is SparkPeople helping you get there?

SparkPeople helps me by keeping me accountable. I track my meals and fitness daily. The site also helps by making workout videos available. These videos are no joke...you will work if you do them. I also appreciate the community feed. It's so nice to see posts, stories and testimonies of people just like me who are taking charge of their lives and encouraging others to do the same without judgement.

What's your biggest challenge right now?

My biggest challenge right now is being a single mom and feeling like I have the world on my shoulders with so much to do every day...oh, and late-night snacking! I do try to substitute late-night snacking with a 10-15 minute workout or leaving the computer on the table, turning off the TV, going to my room and reading a book or doing something nice for myself, like a foot bath.

What advice do you have for someone who just joined SparkPeople?

Use all of the amazing tools that are available. Track everything you eat, make the recipes you think you might like and search through those workout videos...they're so much fun! Also, we're all human. We make mistakes. We have feelings. Sometimes we slip, but there is support if you reach out. I need it just as much now as I've ever needed it. I'd also say be nice to yourself. We are always so good at being hard on ourselves. Don't give up. Take some small step every day to bring yourself closer to who you feel like you want to be. Be good to yourself--there is only one you.
